Voice #04: Children of Syria
This depicts Ashraf and Abida, two Syrian children imagined as carriers of resistance through sound. The illustration draws from the chants, songs, and collective voices that filled the streets during Syria’s early protests, where voice itself became an act of defiance. Ashraf and Abida are portrayed with the power of voice projection, their shouts generating ultrasonic force and echoing the voices of Syrians who demanded dignity, freedom, and justice.
At the centre of this work is the legacy of Ibrahim Qashoush, a Syrian musician whose protest songs became anthems of resistance. His murder by the regime in 2011 was an attempt to silence dissent — but instead, it amplified it. His voice did not disappear. It multiplied.
